Scientific studies have shown the importance of children´s outdoor play and activities. Whether in cities or in the countryside, free time and space is of importance to children´s development as human and cultural beings. In this we consentrate on physical space, and children's land-use in their immediate surroundings. The method is based on a concept of children as competent subjects with specific knowledge that is of crusial importance in the municipalities' land-use planning. To gain knowledge of children´s land-use, a dialog with children has to be developed, and a convenient method of mapping children's land-use is nessecary in municipality planning. «Children´s Tracks» is a method developed in Norway during the last decade.
