This symposium focuses on pedestrian behaviour in retail and downtown shopping environments. More in particular the symposium aims at discussing different techniques of predicting pedestrian behaviour in relation to physical characteristics of the environment. After an introduction in the literature (Jan Teklenburg) the symposium turns to a methodological question (Dina Shehayeb). Finally two case studies are presented, one on three Dutch downtown shopping areas (Dick Saarloos), and one on the Les Halles precinct in Paris (John Zacharias).
