"Since 1911 women have been represented in the town council of Gävle, a middle-sized Swedish town. They used various tactics to promote their issues and sometimes cooperated with women from other parties and organisations. Social issues were women's main interests but their engagement in planning and environmental questions has increased. Data mainly come from a research project - "Local politics in the hands of women - what happens?" – funded by FRN (Swedish Council for Planning and Coordination of Research)."
