The Nikkei New Office Award, started in 1988, acknowledges a number of outstanding offices all over Japan, and in each of seven regions. Since 1995, NOPA New Office Standards have been used by the officials for pre-jury ratings. These ratings may not simply lead to the final jury selection. In this presentation, the tendencies in the juries are analyzed, focusing on case studies of awarded offices in the Region of Central Japan. The case studies include VR Techno Center, designed by an international architect, which was recommended by the jury of Central Japan Region, and which won the MITI Award of 1999.
