"The aim of the present study was to estimate the importance of daily stress factors in a general French population. Responses to our version of Lazarus' "Hassles Scale", which was published in the monthly magazine Science et Vie, were obtained from 2266 French adults. The quantity and intensity of daily hassles were calculated from these responses. In general, women of all ages felt more stressed than men, whereas men felt less stressed with increasing age. Greater stress was reported by the lower socio-economic respondents. Compared to results obtained 10 years earlier with the same scale, French adults appear to be more stressed at present"
