A multidimensional approach to the perception of environmental quality is presented within a study aimed at involving inhabitants on a project of urban renewal for a square in a peripheral neighbourhood in Rome. Different constructs and instruments are used in order to evaluate people perceptions, evaluations, activities, representations, expectations, at various place specific levels (neighbourhood and square). Convergence and complementarity of results from the different instruments, gathered on a sample of 100 inhabitants, are used in order to outline possible choices and guidelines for the project.
