Our research focuses on the change of the houses between 1971 and 1999. This will clarifies the characteristics of present living environment and the cause of transformation of Saikazaki village situated on a sloping setting. In the sixties, wooden and slanting-roofed houses were dominant. But for the following two decades, flat roofed houses which indicate reinforced concrete or steel structure, started to increase by means of replacing the piched roof. But many old houses still exist in the middle of the village and small renovations on them caused or resulted the transformation of their way of life and living environment.
