The current research is focused on the concept of subjective density. Subjective density is defined as the positive or negative evaluation that people make of a given situation, in relation to the density, the perceived density and various other factors. The purpose of this study is to understand the meaning of residential density for the individuals experiencing it. More specifically, the objective is to understand the evaluation of the density as part of the holistic context (mainly the physical and cultural) of the residential environment, and to identify the most important variables in this context. This means, to answer the question: under what conditions do people evaluate a particular density level as positive or negative.
