The study set out to determine the effect of living conditions in informal settlements on human behavior and the influence of human actions on the social and physical environment. It was hypothesized that because the environment creates poor outcome expectations, people are inclined not to believe in their capabilities to influence their situation and therefore tend to live a marginal existence. Few positive consequences of having poor outcome expectations on human behavior and the environment is therefore evident. Inthe study, possible interventions were proposed to improve people's outcome expectations and therefore their fonctioning in their environment.
