Our research is interested in the emotional component of place attachment. We studied two populations of Parisian students (undergraduates and graduates) and asked them about the factors that might determine this attachment according to the person's background, residential mobility and personal characteristics (age, level of studies...). The results showed that the age of the person has an effect on the nature of this attachment: undergraduates mentioned mainly social factors to explain their place attachment rather than environmental factors. For the graduate students, this tendency is reversed to a certain extent: they continue to be attached to the people present at this appreciated place, but the environmental surroundings play a major role too.
