The appropriation of space is related to several terms like place attachment, place identity or sense of place. Assumptions of the concept based on cognitive approaches, phenomenological points of view and others theoretical developments show us that it is a complex phenomenon. There are some attempts to explore the diversity of its meanings (Korosec, 1976; Altman & Low, 1992) that illustrates the complexity of the study on the bonding of people to places. In this paper are shown some results from a dissertation about the process which people are attached to some spaces and the way or mechanisms of this appropriation process. Data are collected by means of a questionaire and focus groups. The study is conducted in a neighbourhood of Barcelona that is undergoing a process of change.
