"For more than a century, "personality of place" has been an intuitive yet elusive concept. Given recent interest in "place" and "place experience," it seems appropriate to reconsider the concept of place personality for its potential in the study of people and their physical settings. Place personality is defined as the collection of characteristics and attributes associated with a given place that are relatively stable over time and perceived as unique to a place or common across place types. The concept of place personality reflects the interaction of organizational, social, and psychological systems with the surrounding physical setting."
