The purpose of this seminar or -as we prefered to call it- workshop was to consider appropriation of space in terms of stages in the life cycle, such as childhood, adolescence, the adult years, old age. We were convinced that the focus on developmental aspects of space appropriation would, in fact, be as useful approach to shed some light on the native of appropriation of space and to help clarify the concept of appropriation. By looking at modes of appropriation as a function of age and age related experiences we hoped to gain insight into various dimensions of appropriation and to understand its dynamic native. In this seminar we tried thus to get papers from people who had done empirical research an space appropriation (i.e. what they defined as such) either within a particular age group or across age groups.
