Over the last two decades high-rise housing has come in for much criticism yet more recent studies have shown that this formof housing seems to be satisfactory for the elderly. A study was carried out in Sydney of two 30-storey slab-block of flats for old-age pensioners using a research instrument developed by the Housing Research Development Programme at the University of Illinois, Urbana-champaign. Although high levels of satisfaction were indicated by the residents, the detail obtained allows advice to be given to designers of this residential environment.
