"According to todays general tendency towards more emotionalism in design the meaning of symbols gains importance. However, we do know very little about how these symbols are visually perceived and interpreted by the user of a design object. By means of eye-movement recording techniques we try to localize individual symbols in a design object according to correlated meanings. In a here cited experiment we analysed electrical coffee- and teamakers to find out which are the specific formal elements denotating "coffee" or "tea". With this research we want to give a contribution to the recent discussion of productsemantics."
