Summing up the development of people-environment studies in Poland, we would like to emphasize three characteristic factors. Firstly, the gradual transition from scattered studies, motivated by social sensitivity, to investigations organized in their institutional, theoretical and methodological aspects. Secondly, the transition from integration focused on a single discipline to the integration of various scientific disciplines, methodologies and theories. Thirdly, the transition from the stage of popularization of knowledge to the phase of systematically carried out professional education in the field of P-E studies. The development is characterized by both convergent and integrative tendencies, as well as by conflicts that lead the discipline in the opposite direction.
